The IDS Team
Integrated Design Studio, Inc. was founded by Michael Erskine, ASLA and Jane Sedonaen, ASLA. Creating IDS, Michael and Jane have integrated their individual talents and strengths and complementary skills. Together, they bring thirty years of experience in landscape construction, garden design, site design, master planning, community process, and workshop facilitation. The IDS staff is comprised of a team of hard working, creative and enthusiastic professionals, each specializing in various aspects of landscape architecture, in addition to being highly skilled with the latest in technological advances in graphic production.
In addition to our in-house staff, IDS works collaboratively with a core base of "IDS Partner firms", providing clients with a smoothly integrated multidisciplinary approach to more complex projects. Our collective team of architects, landscape architects, green building consultants, engineers, interior designers, graphic artists, and marketing/branding specialists have all proven to be effective members of larger design projects.
Michael and Jane met in graduate school, and became professionally affiliated through their work at Perkins Design Associates. As Project Managers and then Associates, they gained extensive experience in the planning, design, and management of a variety of small and large scale projects, including mixed use land planning, master site planning, resort design, and residential landscape architecture. Today, Integrated Design Studio continues to work closely with Perkins Design Associates on several of these longer-term projects.
Michael Erskine, Principal
Michael has experience in landscape planning and design, construction management, and real estate sales. He has provided planning, design, technical analysis, construction administration, and quality control services for residential projects, mixed-use developments and four season resorts. Michael strives to create environmentally sensitive and people-friendly spaces for our clients and directs the IDS team to achieve a distinctive blend of naturally occurring features, innovative configurations, and rich textures in our work.
Michael has a bachelor's degree in Marketing/Public Relations from Southern Illinois University and completed the Landscape Architecture program at the University of California, Berkeley Extension program in Landscape Architecture. He is a Landscape Architect licensed in the State of California (#CA4076) and is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, US Green Building Council, and served on the architectural design review committee for his local homeowners association for three years.
Jane Sedonaen, Principal
Jane has experience in urban planning, community planning, recreation, and landscape architecture. She has worked as a Project Manager and Director for several recreational and training programs, providing workshops for local community groups and municipal park and recreation departments. She served for two years as faculty at San Francisco State University in the Department of Recreation. Through her teaching and training work, Jane gained extensive experience in group process and facilitation.
As a Landscape Architect, Jane has experience designing, managing, and preparing documents for several large scale site planning projects. Jane is able to use her facilitation skills to lead community workshops, design charettes, and planning sessions. She is a strong believer in the value of client and stakeholder input to the design process. Jane emphasizes that comprehensive site design needs to incorporate not only the physical site, but also the larger social context and environmental factors. Her deep understanding of social interactions and human behavior guide the IDS team to create useful and meaningful places.
Jane holds a B.S. in Urban Studies from Brown University, a Masters in Recreation Planning at San Francisco State University, and a certificate in Landscape Architecture through the University of California, Berkeley Extension Program. Jane is a licensed Landscape Architect in the State of California (#CA5057). She is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, The American Planning Association, and the Association of Environmental Planners.
